-LOCAL SIGHTS in MINAMI OGUNI TOWN and OGUNI TOWN (half day)

This is a beautiful area of Kyushu to explore,so if you have a car don`t miss some of the local sights! There is an English leaflet/map about MINAMI OGUNI 南小国 with limited information about the local area, but the Oshido Ishi (押戸石),a group of mysterious stones on a hillside are recommended. These are located off the `Mystery Road` leading off Route 212, approx. 30mins drive from Kurokawa. Parking is available for a 500 fee,but no other facilities are available.

Neighbouring OGUNI 小国 (15 mins by car) has several buildings of architectural interest including Oguni Dome 小国ドーム,Yu-Stationゆうステーション and Mokkonkan 木魂館. The Sakamoto Zenzo Gallery坂本善三美術館 is housed in a fully-restored traditional farmhouse, and the buildings housing the Kitazato Shibazaburo Museum 北里柴三郎記念館 have also been carefully restored. Local attractions include the Nabegataki falls 鍋ケ滝 (lit up for a brief period in early May),pleasant walks along a former railway line and hiking in the Mount Waita わいた山 1500m area, and the Tsuetate Koinobori 杖立温泉鯉のぼり祭り festival featuring thousands of Koi Carp Streamers over the Tsuetate River (Early April to May 5th).

Oguni Town is also the place to visit if you are in need of a bank (Higo Bank and Kumamoto Bank),larger post office, drugstore, supermarket etc or convenience store (Family Mart) with an ATM.
